WOODBLOCK PRINTS

Sara Woodburn has been exploring the relief printing process in her work for many years. She was attracted to the woodcut technique because of the variety of line and mark making inherent in the carving, as well as the creative possibilities of layering forms and color. She uses multiple blocks, applying the ink with a brayer or brushes and printing each layer onto the paper with an etching press or by hand with a baren. Her inspiration consistently comes from the landscape and its variety of birds, trees, and flowers, and the impacts that human caused climate change is having on those natural resources.
