MOKUHANGA
Sara has been practicing the art of Mokuhanga since her experience learning from Hiroki Morinoue at Anderson Ranch in Colorado in 2012. The art form perfectly matched her longtime study of Japanese printed textiles and added to her knowledge and practice of woodcut, drypoint etching, screen print, and relief printmaking. A Mokuhanga print is made without a press using watercolor, handmade paper, and brushes. The process is meditative, flexible, and non-toxic. The themes of Sara’s work are found throughout her prints, whether made in the Mokuhanga manner or made on the press, as in the woodcut tradition. Her style is unique and moves easily between representational, graphic, and abstract.
